Yesterday, when I left my check-up with 3 prescriptions in hand I felt a little validated in the survival mode our house has been in lately. No longer do I feel guilty that I took 3 naps a day with Bentley while he was home sick. Nor do I feel bad at the number of meals we've eaten out in the past month or two. Or the hours of TV our boys have been watching for that matter. And the boxes of apples still waiting to be turned into apple pie filling? Now I know why I haven't gotten to them. When Chod brought up the Christmas decorations last weekend and I asked that he put them back because I wasn't putting them up yet--that's excused too. Things have been really sad around here and I'd been crediting pregnancy with the way I was feeling, thinking I was a wimp and needed to just deal with it. But apparently I've actually been sick.
Here's hoping I feel better soon.

Sick-o
Have you ever known one of those kids who throws up because they are upset. They get ticked off, start crying, and before you know it they have emptied their stomach.
They bug me.
But turns out our Lincoln is one of them.
Twice.
In the car.
All over his car seat.
Today.
And we aren't even home yet.

Not on the list
Apparently, Santa left a little something special in the bottom of our stockings that wasn't on any of our lists.
The stomach flu.
For each and every one of us.
Bentley's sheets were changed 3 times before he figured out why we kept sending a bowl to bed with him. It was that bad.
This is a Christmas we won't forget anytime soon.

Yo-ho-ho
The little pirates have hit some rough water. The boys went to the doctor this morning, I was fully expecting Lincoln to come home with few prescriptions and to be told Bentley had a virus and there was nothing for him.
Instead, Lincoln came home with nothing, and Bentley got the nebulizer and 3 prescriptions just in case it is the beginning of pneumonia.
We are hoping to be back to our plundering soon, this lying around all day stuff is starting to get old.

Sick pirates
While the Parish clan travels to the other side of the world for the last of the wedding festivities today, we will be home wiping noses and kissing fevers.
Three out of four of us are under the weather. Luckily, the littlest is still feeling fine.
We should have saved our day of pirating until now.

Bugged
The boys did a great job of infecting both Chod and me. Our house has been an infirmary for the last week. Chod stayed home from work sick Friday and Monday, and we stayed sequestered during church too. It was a very, very long weekend, but thankfully it looks like we are all going to make it. Unfortunately, Bentley recovered before the rest of us, so he has been a ball of energy bouncing from wall to wall, asking question after question, driving me crazy and crazier. My patience have been worn very thin.
After a morning of much crying and whining and demanding from the 3 year old, I sent myself to my room. We have a house rule that whining, or excessive crying should happen on your bed. So when Bentley walked in and started in with more questioning, and saw me sitting on my bed and asked what I was doing. I answered, "I feel like whining and crying so I am sitting on my bed."
"Oh, I see." and he walked out.
I wonder if it will always be that easy.
Lincoln had a followup appointment with the doctor today at 12:15. Yesterday, they called and asked if we could be there at noon.
So we were.
At 12:45 the we still hadn't seen the doctor.
Doctor's are not exempt from my lack of patience today.
The point of changing my appointment, please?

Saving Time
We have the yucks. For the last week and a half my boys have been miserable. Runny noses, sneezing, and swollen gunky eyes that I blamed on allergies. Yesterday I had enough and hauled them to the doctor.
Six prescriptions (and $150) later and we were home. Anti-biotics and eye drops for both, allergy medicine for Bentley, and a nebulizer for Linc. Yuck.
So this morning when I told Bentley to get a tissue and wipe his nose I guess I shouldn't have been too surprised when he ran over, lifted up the cushion of the chair and pulled out a used Kleenex.
Eeww.
"Seriously, is that were we keep our tissues?"
"Yep." As he wiped his nose.
Efficiency I suppose. The bathroom is quite a walk from the front room.

Maybe viral isn't all that bad
Thursday night when Bentley's cough kept getting worse and his fever hit 102.8 and neither Motrin or Tylenol could touch it, I decided it was time to head to InstaCare.
Three hours, 8 x-rays, 1 strep test, 1 RSV test, 1 influenza test and 1 breathing treatment later we found out that he did not have strep, RSV, influenza, or pneumonia.
He has a viral infection. Which means there was not much that could be done for him.
Part of me thinks we should have just stayed home.
And then the other part is really happy that he doesn't have any of that stuff.

Pukey Pukerton
Nothing makes me appreciate our washer and dryer more than when Bentley is sick.
He woke up crying Saturday night. He had thrown up all over his bed. So into the washer went the sheets and blankets and jammies and Froggie.
Then he threw up all over me and the couch. Luckily, we don't have nice furniture so the slip cover went in the next load. Most days I don't appreciate the ease of doing laundry daily. But today I am thankful all is washed and not sitting in a pile waiting for a trip to the laundromat...ugh.
...needless to say he didn't get to show off his new suit yesterday at church.

Don't Tell Bentley
I have a nasty head cold.
Bentley has two bottles of Nasonex.
And since I know how much he likes his Nasonex, I've been waiting for him to go to bed before I use it.

Nasonex Dependance?
Remember this post? It was the one were I said that Bentley had his first ear infection...
Well, we still have that ear infection 2 months later. We've tried out most antibiotics without any luck. He has been on a prescription cold medicine for the last little while, but the poor guys head is still all clogged up.
We've been making weekly, sometimes bi-weekly visits to the doctor. Tomorrow we have an appointment with an ENT (ear, nose and throat specialist) to see if tubes are in his future. At our last visit with the doctor he sent me home with a bottle of Nasonex and told me some tricks to get him to allow us to squirt it up his nose, with the advice that "any little bit would help."
Chod and I both were a little skeptical of how Bentley would like it.
Then last night Bentley went and got his bottle of Nasonex, took the lid off, laid on the floor and stuck it up his nose. He doesn't know how to squirt it, or else he would be giving it to himself now.
I've got a little druggie on my hands...and to think I thought it was going to be a fight every night.
Hopefully it has done the trick, and he won't need tubes after all!

Oh Doctor!
After 3 sleepless nights at Grandma's I took Bentley to the doctor today.
His first visit to the doctor outside of check-ups. His first ear infection. His first sinus infection.
His first antibiotic.

Kinda gross I know...
I wish I had an exciting story to share or at least a funny picture...but there isn't much going on around here. We are all sick. Just the common cold (or maybe West Nile?), but its the pits.
We are pretty much a mucus factory in full production.

Happy V-Day
We sure know how to celebrate Valentines.
With a box of Mucinex, some Sudafed, and a fever of 102.
Oh so romantic.
The next morning Chod made me go to the doctor. I have the crud. I am now on 2 prescriptions that I am not quite sure what they are, but they are making me feel much better.
Hope your Valentine's Day was better.

Singing the blues
We are singing the Runny Nose Blues at our house. Bentley has one, I have one. Life is miserable. As I was going through iTunes looking for some music for the little man to dance to I came across "I've Got the Runny Nose Blues." A song off of a children's CD. I have been looking for the lyrics to share, but believe me, they are very fitting.

Cutest little cleaner
Since Bentley is now 1, we feel that is it time he takes on a little more responsibility around the house. And scrubbing the bathtub with a toothbrush seemed like the perfect place to start.
Not really. He just had thrown up every where so we threw him in the tub and Chod gave him his toothbrush to take care of the yucky taste. Apparently my tub was pretty gross cause after he finished his teeth he took care of it.

Saturday Night Fever
The following is not for the faint of heart (or stomach) :
Last night we were visiting Chod's parents in Rigby. Just as we were finishing dinner I got sick. Sick as in mad dash to the bathroom. Within the next half an hour Chod had joined me in being sick.
Vomiting.
Diarrhea.
We were a sad case. Good thing we were at Grandma's house or Bentley would have been left to fend for himself. Its also a good thing we were at a location with more than 1 bathroom, and sometimes that wasn't enough.
For instance, I was in 1 bathroom and Cameron was in the other on the first floor. Chod knew he was going to throw-up and headed to the bathroom downstairs. Leaving a trail from the entry way, down the stairs, through the hall, and finally to the bathroom.
Nasty.
We weren't well enough to make the 40 minute drive home until about 11:00 this morning.
Needless to say we were not the best house guests, and we will completely understand if we are not welcome back at the Stephens' for a while.
Neither of us are feeling too hot right now, although it is more aches and general yuckiness than anything else.
Chod is convinced we have food poisoning. I can't figure out what we could have eaten to cause this, and besides I am taking that assumption as a direct slam to my cooking.
