Got My First Deer

Late Friday night we had just pulled in the driveway when Chod remembered his car was still at the university, and he couldn't park there overnight. So we retrieved it and I followed him home, with the boys asleep in the backseat. In a very residential area, about a mile from our house, while I going about 30 mph a deer jumped out in front of me. It happened so fast that I'm not sure his feet touched the ground before he met my bumper.

I grabbed my phone and called Chod, who was just seconds in front of me, to let him know what had just happened.

"I hit a deer."

"A deer? I didn't see any deer!"

"Yeah, me either. That's why I hit it!"

"Did you wreck the car?"

"I imagine so, do I still have 2 headlights?

"Yeah. Are you sure you hit a deer?"

"Yes."

It did some damage to the bumper and fog lights, but nothing else was harmed. Considering I hit a deer I consider it to be very minimal, Chod on the other hand sees it as major repair work.

But if he were to admit it, he's just glad it was me who hit that deer instead of him. Cause it easily could have been him.

Barstool Cussing

As a bridal shower gift I received a barstool. Just 1 lonely barstool and we've never added to it. One day we'll have a nice matching set at the bar, but for now it's just the 1 pesky thing, and I hate it. It has been banished to the garage and the craft room, but always makes its way back to the proper spot at the bar for one reason or another.

As much as I despise it, our boys love it. They use it to reach and climb places they shouldn't be, it is the chair they use when "helping" in the kitchen and they never move it back to the other side of the bar when they are finished. So it always seems to be in the way in the kitchen.

Most of the words I wish our boys wouldn't say they've learned from me talking about the barstool. They're not exactly swear words but still words I don't like to hear my 3 year old use.

"This stupid barstool."

"Get that flippin barstool out of here!"

"I hate this thing."

I do have to admit that I laugh (usually in another room) when I hear Lincoln say things like, "Bentley, you need to pick up your flippin Legos."

But I shouldn't.

Some kids learn how to cuss growing up with cows, but mine learn it from living with a barstool. And I've got no one to blame but myself.

Valentine's Season

The little things that make Valentine's so special.

::Heart Banner Valentines
::Chocolate Fondue
::Valentine Quesadillas
:: Good Mail to send the sisters

Kissed a K

Lincoln has been going to story time at the library and loves it. Smithfield Library has a great little story time with songs, and stories and crafts. This time it was all about the letter K. He got to kiss a K and he liked it--lipstick and all.

He's Got Skills

Chod thinks I keep him around just to be the handy man.

Our Jeep hasn't been running so hot lately, and last week it got worse. In the block and a half between our house and the school it died 7 times. So I wouldn't consider that running at all.

Chod spent a couple hours and $85 on it that night and it now runs better than ever!

Then one of our dining table chairs broke. But luckily these babies are originals from the 1950's--back when things weren't made to be thrown away. Chod welded it back together and it is as good as new.

So even though I didn't marry him for his skills, they've sure come in handy lately.

Family Gym Time

The ultimate bribe for our boys is to get to go to the gym with us. They'll do anything for it and get so excited while we are getting ready. They each put on their "gym clothes" and their "running shoes" and then they pack a backpack full of treats and fluids. They pack like we'll be there for a week, not an hour. And Chod makes them leave it in the car.

Our family time at the gym usually consists of us in a racquetball court with a soccer ball playing keep away. It is a great size for the boys to run, without being huge. And it is contained and all ours. Chod tries to sneak off for a little time on the treadmill and while he is running the boys have fun making up their own games and using up some of their energy. Today we even tried rackets and a ball...but there is much room for improvement.
