Chod has been out of town for the last few days at meetings, and Bentley went through dad withdrawals while he was gone.
He would randomly open the front door and call "Daaaa." And he refused to sleep on Chod's side of the bed, because it was dad's. He pretended to call Chod on the phone no less than 62 times in the last 2 days.
"Bentley, who loves you?"
"Dad do."
Now that Chod is back Bentley can't get enough of him. Which is working out really well for me.
"Who do you want to change your diaper, Mom or Dad?"
"Dad!"

Prayer for George
I think I have mentioned how much Bentley loves the iPod, known as "George" around here (he watches Curious George on it, hence the name). George has been missing for the past 3 days. I had torn the house and car apart searching for it, but since I'm not the one who uses it I had been looking in every possible place Bentley could have sat it down.
Nothing.
So this morning Bentley and I said a little prayer, asking for help in finding the iPod. And just like a story out of the Friend, I got up after the prayer and moved a pillow on the couch (the same pillow I looked under at least 5 times) and there it was!
Bentley is probably too young to remember this faith promoting story, but it is one I hope to be able to tell him when he is a little older.

Scripture Time
Family scripture study with a 2 year old is, well, short. We could only manage 2 or 3 verses before all interest had been lost. A few weeks ago I found this at the distribution center.
The stories are condensed and there are a lot of pictures. Bentley sits really well through a whole story. Scripture time is his favorite and he makes sure it happens before any other story is read.
One day we will make the switch back to The Book of Mormon, but until then he is learning the stories from here.

Hard to Share

Chod loves trains and blocks, so when he gave Bentley this for Valentine's Day I was highly suspicious.
It appears that I was correct in thinking that Chod got as much for himself as for Bentley.
Last night the two of them were playing with it and I would hear;
"Hey"
"Dang it"
and a "Mom, Bentley is stole the piece I was using"
so I went in the room to observe this high rise train track that was being built. After a few minutes Chod walked out of the room mumbling, "I better just leave before I get mad."
I don't know what is harder, being 2 and having to share with your dad--or being the dad and having to share with the 2 year old.

Big News
I've mentioned before that we aren't even going to attempt potty training Bentley for a little while. He has an appointment with the urologist on Tuesday and hopefully we will know more of a timeline so we can make a trip to the library to check out books on potty training, because honestly, I have no idea how to begin.
This morning though, he was in the tub when he started screaming. Chod went in to assess the situation and he said Bentley was pointing to his bum. Chod figured that he needed to poop so he removed him from the tub and placed him on the toilet.
Bentley hated sitting on the toilet, but he did poop and then he got so excited when he got to flush it.
We were proud and he was proud, so hopefully this is a sign of what's to come.

Sunbeam Mofia
I think there is some sort of a mofia in our ward.
Being ran by a 3 year old.
I helped with the Sunbeams today and Peter kept asking if he could go and find Tyler's dad. After many no's I finally asked why he needed to find Tyler's dad.
"Because he has my money, and I want it."
"Why does Tyler's dad have your money?"
"Because he owes me money, I need to go find him."
"After primary."
"But I want my money now."
"You'll have to wait until church is over."
"I want my money."
As we were leaving church I saw Tyler and his dad--I wonder if the dad had any idea Peter's gonna break his arm if he doesn't get his money soon.

Cheeks
Bentley is really good about giving kisses. At the right time of day he will give even a stranger a kiss. Recently he has started noticing that Chod has whiskers on his face and that has sparked a whole other form of affection.
This morning he looked at me and said "kiss" and then proceed to smooch me.
He then went to Chod and said "cheeks".
Chod picked him up and Bentley pressed his cheek to Chod's and sat there for a few minutes. Chod looked a little uncomfortable the longer it went on, but it was hilarious. Then after Bentley's love tank was full he hopped down.
Throughout the day instead of giving Chod kisses he has been giving him "cheeks".
I've heard of butterfly kisses and eskimo kisses, but this is a first for cheeks.

Fish
One of the great things about living in the same town as your aunts, well besides the free babysitting, is that you are close enough to inherit their hand-me-down pets.
His name is Nemo, but I think he'll be known around these parts as Fish. We've already had him for over 12 hours and a) he is still alive and b) Bentley is still fascinated by him, so we are off to a great start.
Thanks Tameka!

The Art of Sneaking
Bentley loves to "sneak up" on Chod. He puts his finger over his mouth, shhh-es, and tiptoes so Chod won't hear him coming.
This only lasts for a few seconds before he is overcome with excitement and starts giggling.
Today we went to visit Chod at work. Once we were on his floor we still had to walk halfway down the hall before reaching his office.
I told Bentley "let's get Dad."
So the SSSHHHHing and tiptoeing began and lasted for about 2 doors before he took off running and yelling "DAD, DAAAD, DAD".
Not so sure Chod was taken by surprise.

Laundry Fairy
When we were first married I used to tease Chod about him taking the Laundry Fairy for granted.
He would throw his clothes in the hamper and the next thing he would know, they would be clean, hanging in his closet.
With time it now takes me longer to get laundry cleaned and returned to their proper location.
Today I ran a clean load upstairs and came back down to move the next load from the washer to the dryer.
I opened the dryer to find it full of clothes. Dry clothes.
"The laundry fairy?" I thought.
But after recognizing the that the jeans and the whites and the reds had to have been pulled straight from the dirty hamper by the two year old, I realized that there still isn't such a thing.
But I sure do have a helpful little boy!

1 State
I sat down with our pile of tax information and started plugging in numbers. To my surprise we only had to file in 1 state. This is the first time since we have been married that we haven't had to file in both Utah and Idaho--and that makes me happy.
I already know that we will be filing in 2 states again next year, but I'll take it for now.

Old?
As I was standing in line mulling over the absurd price of dairy products the cashier and bag boy were having this conversation:
Her: So I like, think it is soo cute when, like adults text.
Him: Yeah, it's like, they're old and stuff but they still try. So my neighbor, she is like almost 30, and she went to a concert. Its like, weird. She is old.
Am I, like, an adult?

Expired License
This afternoon as we were driving home from snowshoeing a guy, obviously not noticing that we were stopped behind a line of cars at a stop sign, pulled out and almost ran straight into our passenger side.
After I finished exclaiming what an idiot the guy was, Chod looked at Bentley in the review mirror and said, "Well at least I am driving, since I am the only person with a drivers license."
I have a drivers license. It just expired on my last birthday and I haven't taken the time to renew it (since we have moved to a new state it takes a little more effort to get a new license).
Chod claims that the law doesn't really see a difference in no license/a suspended license/or an expired license and thinks I shouldn't drive until I have a legit license.
I think an expired license really isn't that big of a deal, but maybe I should get that taken care of.

Snowshoeing
Chod skipped out on work early and we went snowshoeing up the canyon. Well two of us snowshoed, the other rode in the sled.
I think Bentley had fun. He threw himself out of the sled and pointed to this hill. I guess that was his way of letting us know that he would like to go down it.
The wind was blowing in our faces on the way back, which made it a little rough for Bentley, since the snow the snowshoes kicked up was blown straight into his face. His little eyelashes were frosty when we got back. It's nice to live so close the the canyons, it makes even short trips seem worthwhile.

10 years ago: What was I doing ten years ago? I was a senior in high school. A little nervous about where life would take me but very excited to be moving on.
5 things on my to-do list today: 1. Go to church 2. Take a nap 3. Fix dinner 4. Do dishes 5. ???
Aren't Sundays great!
Snacks I enjoy: Snickers, pretzels
Things I would do if I were suddenly made a a billionaire: I think Uncle Sam would get more than his fair share first and then I would buy a house, okay I'd probably buy a few houses in various locations around the world. Hopefully I would still have a substantial amount to stick in the bank and live off of the interest for the rest of my life. Oh, and I would buy fancy gifts of course.
3 of my bad habits: 1. I talk really fast when I say prayers 2. I bite my nails. 3. Instead of going to bed when I am tired, I lie down on the couch for my pre-bed nap. Then hours later I wake up, have to peel the contacts off my eyes, brush my teeth and go to bed. This pretty much happens every night--it makes Chod so mad.
Jobs I have had: Evergreen Nursery, Shingo Prize & Partners in Business, Rudy's Greenhouse, Utah State Analytical Lab, D & B, back to USUAL, Hilary's Desert Oasis, I also put some time in for WEPCo, and hoed beets
Things people don't know about me: Sheesh, haven't I shared enough already? 1. I have a very tender heart--some of you may not believe this, but I just act tough. It's my defense mechanism. 2. Some days my dad calls me 5 times, although he has cut back recently. 3. I have mad Minesweeper skills.
I am Tagging: Karisa, Kassie, Dad, Jolyn, and Corrine

Chore Time

Growing up, Mom would send us out to do chores with Dad. I am sure this was a much bigger help to Mom than to Dad. During the winter it would mean bundling up in our snow clothes and Dad pulling us on the sled as he fed the chickens and cows and horses and whatever other animals we may have had at the time.
We don't have chores to do outside at our house, but since it has snowed all day here--there has been plenty of snow to shovel. After the Superbowl I bundle Bentley up and sent him out to help Chod.
Maybe one day we will have critters to feed and Bentley will be able to learn the real meaning to "chore time."Until then this will have to do.

Maybe viral isn't all that bad
Thursday night when Bentley's cough kept getting worse and his fever hit 102.8 and neither Motrin or Tylenol could touch it, I decided it was time to head to InstaCare.
Three hours, 8 x-rays, 1 strep test, 1 RSV test, 1 influenza test and 1 breathing treatment later we found out that he did not have strep, RSV, influenza, or pneumonia.
He has a viral infection. Which means there was not much that could be done for him.
Part of me thinks we should have just stayed home.
And then the other part is really happy that he doesn't have any of that stuff.
