Wanna go shopping?

As I was picking out produce and loading other groceries into my cart, I noticed that my wallet was not in my purse. I had my checkbook, but no ID.

It has been so long since I have used a check in a store that I really didn't know the whole protocol for them. I was debating whether to run home or to finish my shopping, and then hope they would take my check without ID when I hear a, "What are you doing?"

"Hey, do you want to buy my groceries?"

"Sure."

Tameka then turns to her friend and says, "This is my sister, I don't usually walk up to strangers and ask them what they are doing."

"But I usually ask strangers to buy my groceries..."

By the way, they took my check without ID.

First Date

Tonight Chod planned a date (without my nagging) and even lined up a babysitter on his own. I think those are both firsts.

We went to dinner and then went miniature golfing. I beat him by 4 strokes, which was pretty lucky since I golf like I shoot pool--haphazardly. I still think it was cruel to make me bend over to either place my ball or pick it up 36 times, but I didn't complain too much since we were out of the house without Bentley.

It was our first time at Celebration Centre and Chod is really excited to go back and try out the rides.

I think I'll watch from the ground.

Just a swinging

We made the trip back to the home of my heritage for Pioneer Day and stayed for the weekend. It was busy and chuck full of activity and we came home worn out.

The main reason for our trip was for the Goose Creek Run-off 10k race Karisa and Chod were running in Oakley in preparation for the Top of Utah. Since we were already going to be in town, we added as many other activities as we could fit in.

We painted Mom and Dad's bedroom, threw a bridal shower, celebrated Dalanie's 1 year birthday, hit the sidewalk sales, a jewelery party, diagnosed Dad's orchard infestation, had a fish fry and the boys played in the water at the Wilkins. I think that's all.

Bentley got his first ride on Dad's swing.

It looked like that ride would've been the end, but Bentley kept calling for "more" and "again".
Oakley borrowed the swing for Saturday's festivities and after the race Bentley got to ride again and was pulled off kicking and screaming. Looks like he just found another thing to want to go to Papa's house for.

Chod and Karisa had to leave bright and early Saturday for the race, and we followed a few hours later with the kids to greet them at the finish line. Chod's main goal was to beat Karisa, and he has been strategizing and worring about it for weeks.
Our cousin Cole and Chod

Hudson helping his mom finish strong.

He thinks the few hours of sleep she got the night before helped in his finishing 6 runners before her.

Our weekend was a complete success and Bentley is already begging to go back to Papa's house.

Little Ghandi

The last two days have been difficult at our house. Yesterday, while I was getting lunch ready I ate a green bean off of Bentley's plate.

He was mad, cried, "Mom, my bean!" and refused to eat anything. I offered him everything I could think of and he turned it all down by telling me that it was his bean. He finally ate when Chod got home, which means he went 10 hours (breakfast to dinner) with no food. No food equals a very grumpy Bentley. But I learned my lesson and I will stay away from his beans from now on.

Then today was filled with tears. Everything made him cry. It was a long day.

So when I walked in to his room during nap time to this
(he started the day fully dressed)

I was reminded that although he is turning into a little boy with opinions of his own, for a few more weeks he is still my baby.

Oh Froggie

Bentley and I play a fun game before nap or bedtime. It's called Where's Froggie? We walk through the house calling for Froggie and looking in closets, under pillows and behind doors.

"Frroooggie?"

It is the easiest way for me to get him in his room and he gets so excited every time we find Froggie and knows it is bed time.

Are you organic?

I am pretty skeptical of all this organic talk...organic food, organic clothes, organic cleaning supplies. I'm not buying it.

I've been reading The Omnivore's Dilemma and my opinion is still holding strong. "Organic" is a term that originated with the hippies, but since has been regulated to a point I find almost comical.

The media has created an image of someone like myself as one who obviously doesn't care about the environment or her children, because if I did I would for sure be buying organic and doing my part to make the world a better place.

It may be that our beef is grass fed and comes straight from my father-in-law, our eggs come from my dad's chickens, and our produce is coming straight out of our garden that have caused these feelings. None of it is grown certifiable organic, yet I have seen how it is raised and wouldn't have it any other way.

How do you feel about organic?

Maybe next year

While looking at the calender I realized that this is our last unscheduled weekend until the end of summer. So, I mentioned to Chod that if we wanted to go camping this was our chance.

We live in an ideal place to go camping. The canyon is only a few minutes away, so in 15 minutes we can be to a camp site and start setting up camp, yet we haven't been.

Bentley hasn't been feeling well this week (fever, runny nose, coughing, and drooling). I think he may be getting some molars, so we decided to play it by ear.

Over the course of the day yesterday our plan went from camping--to just going up the canyon, starting a fire and cooking dinner and s'mores--to going to a park and starting a fire for s'mores--to staying home and using the grill.

We sat Bentley's little tent up in the front room, our camp chairs on the patio and Chod cooked himself a hot dog and we roasted some mallows. Bentley entertained himself by running through the sprinkler.

Now that's my kind of camping!

Take a Tally

A couple weeks ago Chod came home from work and asked, "Did you even notice I made the bed this morning?"

"I did notice the bed was made."

"But did you notice that I made it?"

And then last night he came home and asked, "Did you notice that I started the dishwasher last night?"

"Uh, did you notice I unloaded it?"

"But you did realize that I was the one that started it?"

I'm not sure who he thinks is getting credit for these good deeds, but keeping score is a really bad idea on his part.

Our Mary Poppins

I've always wished for a live-in-nanny, or at least for an older child I could leave Bentley with at the last moment.

Like when he is asleep and I need to leave.

Or when I need to go to the store.

Or when I have a 15 minute meeting and I don't want to bring him along.

Like last night, for instance, we needed to meet with the Stake President to renew our temple recommends. At first I was planning on Bentley coming with us, but then I thought how nice it would be if we didn't take him. So I asked Tameka to watch him, which turned out to be a great thing because what I thought would be a quick trip ended up taking 1 1/2 hours because the stake presidency was running late.

So I guess a fun aunt is the next best thing to a live-in-nanny....unless you want to move in with us Tameka?

I know I could never afford to pay her because last week she clipped and painted this pregnant ladies toes--something only a sister would do!

Red Truck, Green Truck

Bentley checked out The Red Truck from the library. Every page talks about the red truck.

"The red truck goes up the hill."

And I would ask, "What color is the red truck?"

"Green."

"The red truck goes down the hill."

"What color is the red truck?"

"Green"

"The red truck drives around town."

What color is the red truck?"

"Green.

He answered this way on every. single. page.

Magically Delicious

I have been very unmotivated to prepare a meal lately. I guess I could blame it on the heat, or the fact that I am pregnant, or maybe it is just plain laziness.

But I am pretty sure its because recently Marshmallow Mateys taste just like doughnuts to me.

And seriously, would you cook if you could pour yourself a bowl of doughnuts for every meal?

Not a shopping buddy

This morning Bentley and I hit the Downtown Sidewalk Sales. Bentley was so excited to get in his stroller, so I thought we may have an enjoyable day together.

He must not have gotten the memo that we were shopping and not out for a walk, because when I would stop to look at something he would scream until the stroller started moving again.

I pulled out his snack and things got a little better. Until I tried on these shoes.
He started crying and yelling "No shoe Mom! No Mom No! No shoe!"

As soon as I took them off he quit and I put them back.

I think his dad taught him to act that way.

7.10.2008

Jack and Jill

We had gotten home from swimming and finished our popsicles when Bentley told me he was ready for a nap. I headed downstairs to get his cup.

He was standing at the top of the stairs and on my way passed him I placed my hand on his head, just has my foot slipped and I fell down the stairs.

Bentley came tumbling after. Hitting his head on the corner of the wall on his way down.

I picked him up, proceeded down the stairs, got his cup and headed back up stairs.

As I was holding him telling him how sorry I was, I whacked his head on the door frame to his room.
I'm not sure which corner caused the damage.

Pea Time

Meet my gardening buddy.
This morning he helped pick peas.

And then he proceeded to eat them.Such a good helper!

We brought home a bag of peas, lettuce and zucchini. Can't wait until our tomatoes are ready!

Ribbon & Rockets

As we were eating dinner I told Chod that I needed to run to Hobby Lobby and pick up some ribbon.

He said he had never been and would like to come too.

I found this to be rather odd. Chod wanted to go to a craft store.

Obviously, I only knew about a part of Hobby Lobby because as soon as we walked in the doors he told Bentley they needed to find the rockets.

Rockets? They have rockets?

Sure enough, they found the aisle of rockets, airplanes and trains.

I don't think it will be the last trip they make to Hobby Lobby since Chod eyed the "rocket he's always wanted."

Home of the Brave

A continuation of our 4th festivities...
If Bentley looks hot and tired in this picture, it's because he was. It was hot and the stadium was packed. He was really good during the entire Bee's game watching the ball being thrown, playing with his glow sticks, and locating the Bee mascot kept him busy. But when we had to wait for the fireworks show to begin, he had had enough. We called it a night and left. When we were about a block from the stadium they started the show. Bentley freaked out at the big booms. It's a good thing we weren't still inside the stadium or it would have been ugly.
The Hillman's had no real plans when they left yesterday morning--just a direction. This morning they called looking for breakfast. They had spent the night in Logan and were taking Brent's nephews and niece out on the boat today. Breakfast must have been good enough, because they invited us to join them. Today was a short trip for us, and it was nice that we only had to drive to Hyrum. Bentley was really excited when he found out he got to go back out on the boat. He was even brave enough to try out the tube. He had a smile on his face during the ride and when he was telling me about it tonight he said "More tube." So I'll take that as a good thing.

We are looking forward to next week being a little more laid back and getting to bed earlier. This celebrating sure is tiring!

Coming to America

Happy Independence Day! Our 4th of July celebrations started last night and are still going. The Keck's and Tameka helped us kick things off with a BBQ last night. After the BBQ we went and staked out our spot to watch the fireworks. The cute Dayton family joined us.
Bentley loves their little girls and was actually caught kissing Jane last night--twice! I'm not sure they are going to let her come over anymore.
There was an impromptu party at Bear Lake with the Hillman's today. Tameka came with us on her first trip ever to Bear Lake and we had fun playing in the sand and water.
Bentley loved riding in the boat and watching the wake boarders. He would clap and yell "Wee!" as soon as they would pop up. If there would have been a baby wake board he probably would have tried it. The water was warmer than all of us had expected. And so blue. And of course, no trip to Bear Lake is complete without a La Beau's raspberry shake. We couldn't let Tameka's first experience of the lake slip by without getting one!We came home for showers and naps and tonight are heading to a Bee's game. Because nothing is more American than baseball and raspberry shakes apple pie.

Putting the Fun in Funeral

Yesterday was our 4th anniversary. We spent it at Chod's Grandpa's funeral and then went to Cherry Hill with his brother and sister and their families.

It was hot, so we all enjoyed having water to play in. We played hard, as you can tell by Bentley passed out on the bench at Applebee's waiting for our table. Bentley had fun playing with his cousins and uncle--I wish I would've gotten a picture of the boys and Kaayl together.

Monday Chod had flowers delivered--which gives him bonus points since he obviously was thinking ahead. He even requested hydrangeas since they were all over Victoria on our honeymoon. Impressive.
