Last night Chod brought me home flowers. Sweet, yes, but not the point of this story.
As I was arranging them in a vase, Bentley and Lincoln were questioning my every move.
"Why are you cutting them?" (So they'll be able to drink the water.)
"Why are you doing that?" (These are called guard petals and they're ugly so I'm peeling them off.)
Chod told them to calm down, that I was a plant scientist, and knew what I was doing.
Bentley looked at me in shock and asked, "Wait, did you graduate?"
I told him that I had, indeed, graduated and then he turned to Chod to see if I was telling the truth.
Later, he curled up to me on the couch and told me that he never even knew that I was smart.
I'm not sure what graduating means to him, or even what he thinks that I have graduated from (high school? kindergarten? college?). But no matter. Whatever it is, it's enough for me to be more than just a mom in his eyes.

The early bird pays more...
Now that it looks like summer may be here I ventured out and bought flowers for my planters. Because of my procrastination I scored at the OH Greenhouse with 80% off my entire purchase. I filled 3 planters for $5.37.
Granted the selection was limited and the plants look a little sad--but nothing a bigger pot won't take care of!

New Job
Last week the floral shop I helped with on Valentine's Day and Mother's Day called and asked if I would like a job. A job designing flower arrangements and they would teach me how! It is something I have wanted to learn how to do for a few years, but haven't been able to bring myself to pay the thousands of dollars to do. Now they will be paying me and I will be learning.
I will only work 1 day a week--and today is my first.

Happy Mother's Day!
Maybe its not an orchid, but this the my corsage. Before we left for church Chod told me that I was supposed to tell people that he bought it for me because he loved me and then everyone would think he was a great husband. No one asked about it, so I didn't have to lie, but I am pretty sure most people assumed it was from him anyway.
It lasted until the middle of Sacrament Meeting. Then Bentley discovered it and it is now smushed, oh well.
We made these for the mom's in nursery. Kind of cheesy but so is the story of nursery gifts. Each kid got to pick out the ribbon and we used glue dots to stick it all together! They are pink and brown, although you can't tell from the picture.
I saw the little saying online, and then made these little cards.
Hope you are having a great Mother's Day!

I heart flowers
Today was day two of delivering flowers. It was so fun to take flowers to little ladies whose kids were all grown and they were surprised with flowers from them today. I think a few almost started crying when I handed them their flowers.
Upon returning to the store they asked me to check the cooler for an arrangement and what did I find?
These. With a card saying "Nikkala".
Chod had called and ordered flowers for me! This is a big deal because even though he is very good about buying flowers for me, this is the first time he has ordered an arrangement from a florist. Most of my flowers come from Albertson's and I get to arrange them myself. I like to arrange flowers, but have always thought it would be really nice to be surprised with a beautiful flower arrangement.
The flowers are the exact colors my flowers were for our wedding-how good are they. I think this is my favorite arrangement of all I saw today (and I saw some very pretty ones). Aren't they pretty?

They sent all of us home with a corsage too. So tomorrow I get to sport my corsage with all the other moms. Corsages on Mother's Day remind me of Deann James. I don't know why, but probably because she always has an orchid corsage on Mother's Day. Tomorrow I will feel like Deann. Hopefully Bentley doesn't have it destroyed before we get to church.
